PlayStation 3 has moved 41.6 million units globally since its launch in November 2006, SCEA digital distribution manager Pierre Gravereau’s confirmed.
Gravereau dropped the news during the PlayStation Network Analysis panel at the Game Developers Conference this week.
Bizarrely, this contradicts Sony’s recent financial report that pegged the system at 47.9 million units sold.
In addition, the platform holder also revealed that more than 80 percent of PS3’s are connected to the Internet, resulting in a whopping 70 million PSN accounts being created.
Elsewhere, Gravereau said that traffic to the PlayStation Store saw a 60 percent raise in 2010 compared to the previous year, netting Sony a 70 percent raise in revenue.
