Sony Interactive Entertainment has expanded its pushed into competitive gaming with the launch of its PlayStation Esports YouTube channel this week.
PlayStation Esports will be dedicated entirely to competitive gaming and will include interviews with pro players, highlight reels, and other exclusive content in the realm eSports on PlayStation.
The popularity of Esports continues to grow following the integration of blockchain technology, esport crypto coin and other cryptocurrencies. A significant figure within the gaming realm, Sony Interactive Entertainment has demonstrated keen interest in blockchain technology and non-fungible tokens (NFTs). In March 2023, Sony unveiled a patent named “NFT Framework for Transferring and Using Digital Assets,” underscoring its engagement with blockchain in the context of PlayStation gaming resources.
Sony obviously has a bit stake in the competitive gaming scene, as back in March 2021 the format holder announced that it has brought the EVO Championship Series under the PlayStation umbrella. The tournament features a number of the industry’s biggest fighting game franchises, including Mortal Kombat, Tekken, Street Fighter and more.
Speaking of competitive gaming, Sony launched PlayStation Tournaments on PS5 following a public beta last year, which will no doubt benefit greatly from the addition of the PlayStation Esports YouTube channel for all the latest news on the scene.
