Sony to discontinue Resistance, Gran Turismo 5 online functionality

Sony U.K. has today updated its list of games that are to have their online functionality ceased in the coming months.

Insomniac’s showpiece series, Resistance, leads the list with its online server status being revoked by March 28, 2014 – this includes all three entries in the acclaimed FPS franchise. Polyphony Digital’s Gran Turismo 5 has been added also, with the online portion of the game being discontinued by May 20 (via Videogamer).

This of course means that players will be unable to connect to the online components of said games but will still be able to avail of the single-player content present in each. The new additions to the list join the likes of Zipper Interactive’s ill-fated MAG, and SOCOM: Confrontation, which are scheduled for withdrawal in the near future – unfortunately for each of those, no single-player content is present to appease fans discontent with Sony’s decision.

For fans of each series there’s still ample time to jump back in and experience the robust online options afforded to each, and no doubt we’ll be doing just that.
