Sony wishes Microsoft good luck with the Xbox Scorpio, but stands by its own hardware strategy

Jim Ryan, head of Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe (SIEE), has said the format holder is happy with its current hardware strategy in wake of Microsoft’s unveiling of the Xbox Scorpio project.

"We obviously follow chatter and speculation online and some of it appeared to be fairly well-grounded so there wasn’t too much that was a particular surprise to us," Ryan told VG247. "Good luck to them with their strategy and we’ve got our strategy and we’ll pursue that. We’re very happy with the way things are going. Fall 2017 is quite a long way off."

Ryan’s comments follow those of Andrew House, President and Group CEO of SIE, who admitted he was surprised by the Xbox Scorpio’s announcement.

PS4 Neo rumored for late 2016 release, offers improved visual fidelity

Sony’s strategy with PS4 Neo remains unknown at present, although the console maker only confirmed its existence last week. However, rumors on the Neo have suggested the system will be released before the end of the year, with an announcement coming at the Tokyo Game Show in September.

House previously commented that the PS4 Neo will feature enhanced specifications, allowing players to enjoy game with improved visual fidelity. It’s also been suggested the console will offer an improved PlayStation VR gameplay experience.

Sony showcased an impressive lineup of PS4 titles during its E3 2016 press conference earlier this week. Futhermore, Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida made it clear that all games were running on regular PS4 hardware, not the Neo.
