Developer Insomniac Games has responded to claims from Marvel that the Spider-Man release date is set for 2017, making it clear that the upcoming PS4-exclusive superhero title has yet to attract a concrete launch window.
Speaking on Twitter, the studio commented that “no release timeframe has been announced” for Spider-Man, despite the head of Marvel Digital Media’s claims last week that the game is slated to hit Sony’s flagship home console this year. The action-adventure title was announced last summer at E3 2016, though little else on the game has been shown to date.
According to Insomniac Games, Spider-Man on PS4 will feature a more experienced Peter Parker, as the iconic web-slinger uses his parkour skills to fight crime throughout New York City. "From traversing with parkour and utilizing the environment, to new combat and blockbuster set pieces, it’s Spider-Man unlike any you’ve played before," reads the official blurb.
Insomniac Games is best known for its work on the PlayStation-exclusive platforming series, Ratchet & Clank, which started out life on the PS2 back in 2002. Since then, the studio has also worked on the Resistance franchise for the PS3 and delved into multiplatform territory with 2013’s Fuse.
