Spyro the Dragon could be making a return to PS4 if the latest hint from Sony is to be believed.
Via Facebook, PlayStation Netherlands posted the following picture yesterday showing a selection of PlayStation icons, including Parappa the Rapper, Kratos from God of War and Spyro the Dragon.
The text underneath the picture translates to “and the 12 points go to,” referring to the Eurovision song contest, though the reference is completely lost on us.
What’s interesting is that Spyro is the only character on that picture that hasn’t appeared on PS4, or who hasn’t had an announced game due to launch.
While Parappa the Rapper was recently remastered for PS4, the Crash Bandicoot N’ Sane Trilogy is due to launch in June. Sackboy has appeared in LittleBigPlanet 3, Kratos has appeared in God of War 3 and will appear in the new God of War PS4 version, while Kat appeared in Gravity Rush. The odd one out: Sypro the Dragon!
Rumors going back to 2014 suggest that a Spyro the Dragon PS4 remake was in the works when artwork surfaced alongside Crash Bandicoot remake artwork. Both titles were said to have been scrapped for PlayStation, but as we know a Crash Bandicoot PS4 trilogy is now incoming.
The original Spyro the Dragon game from Insomniac Games was a commercial success. The iconic platformer series also spawned two sequels: Spyro 2: Ripto’s Rage and Spyro 3: Year of the Dragon, though the last game in the series was released way back in 2000. The rights to the Spyro franchise are now owned by Activision.
What’s the betting that we’ll hear an announcement of a Spyro the Dragon PS4 trilogy at E3 2017? Following this image, we’d guess the odds have just been cut.
