Square Enix Final Fantasy XV team new project targeting PS5

We’re already a few years into this console generation’s lifecycle and that means, devs are already looking forward to the next graphical upgrade that’s set to come in the next generation. While studios have been quiet about developing for the PlayStation 5 and the next Xbox (XB2? NextBox?), Square Enix’s Business Division 2 (BD2), which developed Final Fantasy XV, has now publicly talked about the next generation of consoles.

At PAX West, DualShockers managed to get an interview with Final Fantasy XV Director Hajime Tabata, and he (Tabata) explained that for "future projects," the team is not looking at the current generation of consoles (PS4, Xbox One), but at the next. Also of note, the Windows PC version of Final Fantasy XV represents the current level of tech achievement for the studio, and their sights are now "set to the future where they can go even higher."

Bear in mind that this doesn’t confirm that a new Final Fantasy is in development for the next generation of consoles, though I wouldn’t be surprised if there was one being worked on now, or that studio BD2 is working on a Final Fantasy game.

Is it too soon to talk about the PS5 given the PS4 Pro was just released last year? Maybe. But don’t be surprised if we see more PS5 chatter in the coming months.
