Final Fantasy publisher Square Enix has announced it has kicked off its three-year reboot plan that will see the company focussing more on quality over quantity.
Speaking during its latest financial results, the company is working on a “mid-to-long-term pipeline to achieve a shift from quantity to quality. These reboot plans are expected conclude by the end of the financial year that wraps in March 2027.

“In addition, for titles currently in operation, we have implemented measures to improve profitability, such as expanding platforms, diversifying payment methods, and optimizing operating costs.” Square Enix added that it has “consolidated, accumulated, and shared in-house know-how” by no longer outsourcing titles and instead placing the “under the management of the same studio.”
Under the new management structure, we reviewed all projects at our domestic studios, including HDG and SD titles, and decided to discontinue development of some titles and invest additional funds in titles that require refinement, thereby steadily implementing a strategy of selecting and concentrating development resources.
Square Enix announced overnight that it has cancelled developed of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, but is still working hard on Kingdom Hearts IV. The studio is also working on the next chapter in the Final Fantasy VII Remake project, which is set to launch in 2027.
