Hot on the heels of Final Fantasy XIII producer Yoshinori Kitase celebrating Sony’s recent decision to slash the price of the PlayStation 3, Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada has chipped in on the matter, noting the price drop won’t substantially impact on the publisher’s fortunes until the financial year commencing April 2010.
Obviously, this ties in with Kitase’s comments yesterday, who labelled the price cut as ‘really good timing’ for the company given that Final Fantasy XIII will be hitting the U.S. and Europe in spring next year. However, it’s worth noting that Japanese gamers will be able to get their hands on the PlayStation 3 version before the year’s end.
Speaking with Reuters, Wada commented, "In terms of the impact (the PS3 cut) will have on this financial year’s earnings, I don’t think there will be a major difference," adding, "But I expect there to be a big impact from next year."
Square has high hopes for the much anticipated RPG, expecting the game to sell one million units. In addition, the publisher also expects a similar performance at retail from the likes of Dragon Quest IX and Batman: Arkham Asylum.
