It may have seemed impossible when it launched for current-gen consoles only last year, but Star Wars Jedi: Survivor in addition to being available on PS5 will now be available on PlayStation 4 this coming September 17, 2024.
Respawn and EA confirmed that the port would be happening August 1, 2023, and now less than a week from that one year mark we have the confirmation that it’ll be here in little more than a month. Respawn has also promised that more updates for PS5 and all other platforms will arrive alongside the release in the form of performance fixes, controls and other quality of life improvements.
Back in the opening months of 2023, when we all still hadn’t played Survivor, the game’s director at Respawn Stig Asmussen provided an explanation as to why there wouldn’t be a PS4 version of the game.
At the time Asmussen said that the “faster processors, larger/faster memory, better loading times, etc” that were available on current-gen hardware enabled the team to “create much larger maps, with more detail, greater density, broader enemy/NPC variety, and overall fidelity.”
Asmussen went further to say “This new generation allowed us to do exactly that, and I believe it translates to a true new-gen experience in the Star Wars universe.”
But when Survivor launched, it still did with major issues across all platforms. Now that’s not anything new for any game, especially ones on the triple-A scale, but if Asmussen’s words here didn’t feel like marketing-speak before, they can’t ring as anything else now.
In a press release for the PS4 version a PR representative says that this release along with the new updates are “aimed at maximizing the hardware capabilities of these consoles.”
It’ll be interesting to see how Survivor does on the PS4, and if it’s anything like how the launch went on PS5.
