Sword of the Sea has been trademarked by Sony Interactive Entertainment and Giant Squid in Europe earlier this week, with both companies listed as owners of the trademark.
Developed by Giant Squid, Sword of the Sea was originally released for the PS5 and PC on August 19, 2025, where it was made available on the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog. However, Sony was not the publisher, and as Giant Squid is an independent studio, it is possible the trademark means either Sony has acquired the IP from Giant Squid, or has purchased the studio itself.

Sword of the Sea has players controlling a Wraith as they look to bring a desolate, abandoned world back to life. Players use a hoversword to explore, which features pieces of a snowboard, skateboard, and hoverboard combined into one device, and while exploring you’ll grab Ocean Seeds, which restore water to the desert wasteland, with the restored marine life opening up new pathways to explore.
