The Callisto Protocol Director On Crunch: ‘The Truth Is, I Messed Up’

Glen Schofield, the director on Striking Distance StudiosThe Callisto Protocol, has addressed his controversial Twitter comments on crunch, taking full responsibility for the team working extra hours to finish the project.

Speaking with Inverse, Schofield commented:

The truth is, I messed up. We’re a small-ish team and we were so good about it through the entire development, but at the end I messed up and we worked more than we should have. That one got away from us.

Schofield went on to say that the backlash his tweet received was “educational” and that he’s hopeful it will function as a “catalyst for change overall.”

This isn’t the first time that Schofield has addressed the comments. Speaking in an interview with EDGE earlier this month, the game director assured readers that he does ‘not believe in crunch.’

The Callisto Protocol is scheduled for release on December 2, 2022 for PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One. Striking Distance Studios confirmed earlier this year that it is planning four years worth of post-launch content for the game.

Elsewhere, Schofield admitted that he’s already thinking about sequel ideas for The Callisto Protocol, which won’t be getting a Japanese release due to the game failing CERO certification.
