The CEO Of Arc Raiders Publisher Nexon Says It’s ‘Important To Assume Every Game Company Is Now Using AI’

Junghun Lee, CEO of Nexon, has stated that it’s “important to assume every game company” is utilising AI tools, after it was confirmed that Arc Raiders — which is published by Nexon — employed the use of “procedural and AI-based tools to assist with content creation.”

The news that Arc Raiders has used AI during its development sparked a lot of debate and criticism, but Lee has told Gamespark that most companies now utilise the technology to aid in video game production.

I think it’s important to assume that every game company is now using AI. But if everyone is working with the same or similar technologies, the real question becomes: how do you survive? I believe it’s important to choose a strategy that increases your competitiveness.

Elsewhere, Stefan Strandberg, the CEO of Embark Studios, told Eurogamer in an interview last month that the team uses “AI as tools to assist in some content creation, but always in the context of creativity.” Among the technology used includes text-to-speech (TTS) for some of its voice acting, a feature also seen in The Finals.

TTS allows us to increase the scope of the game in some areas where we think it’s needed, or where there’s tedious repetition, in situations where the voice actors may not see it as valuable work. So it’s a wide umbrella, but the experience of the game doesn’t use any generative AI.

Embark Studios recently announced that it has added Duo Matchmaking to Arc Raiders, and will also lower some of the prices for cosmetics following user feedback from tomorrow.
