Ubisoft has shadow-dropped Tom Clancy’s The Division — Definitive Edition today, but those hoping for some serious improvements over the original 2016 game will be disappointed to learn that this is not the overhaul people were hoping for.
Tom Clancy’s The Division — Definitive Edition is not an enhanced version of the game for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and simply includes the base game, three Season Pass expansions, and various cosmetic packs. The game can be played on Sony’s latest home console, but there’s no differences whatsoever in terms of performance, which is something you would usually expect from a game labelled ‘Definitive Edition.’
In short, this re-release is exactly the same as Tom Clancy’s The Division — Gold Edition, plus a few extra cosmetics. The worst part? Ubisoft wants you to shell out $49.99 for the Definitive Edition. The fact it’s been shadow-dropped shouldn’t come as a surprise as there was little reason for Ubisoft to give this re-release any kind of major promotion.
Back in December, Ubisoft did throw PS5 users a bone by releasing a free update for The Division that allows you to enjoy the game with an improved 60 FPS.
The Division was originally released for PS4, PC, and Xbox One in March 2016, and is set in the near future during the aftermath of a viral pandemic in New York City. Players take control of a Special Agent of the Strategic Homeland Division, who is tasked with helping the outfit rebuild its operations in Manhattan.
