The Escapists coming to PS4, and PlayStation VIPs get makeovers

The Escapists has been console-exclusive to Xbox One since its August 2014 release in Early Access, but no more! The acclaimed indie game is coming to PlayStation 4 "soon."

If you haven’t been keeping tabs on this unique title, here’s a rundown: You assume the role of an inmate in one of six prisons and attempt to enact the perfect escape. It’s a long road to get there, as you’ll need to accrue money, weapons, and tools to make it happen. Your options are many: get a prison job. Perform favors for other inmates. Steal the goods you need. There’s even several dozen items you can craft, from shovels and ropes to weapons like (no kidding) the Cup of Molten Chocolate.

And it all plays out in a distinctly 8-bit landscape from a top-down perspective. I watch this trailer and I see Final Fantasy, or Pokémon. The game seems like a visual homage to these titles on top of Minecraft-lite sensibilities and the intensity of escaping from prison.

Again, no word on when this will hit the PlayStation Store, but rest assured Sony will treat this game well (PS Plus discount, perhaps?). A handful of PlayStation VIPs, including familiar faces like Shahid Ahmad, Shuhei Yoshida, and once-upon-a-time-PSU-writer Nick Suttner, are getting the character treatment on Twitter:
