The Last Guardian was originally scheduled to hit stores on October 25, 2016, although a delay has meant the title will now turn up in December. The new Last Guardian release date is now set for December 6 in the U.S. and December 9 in Europe, with the game also receiving a sumptuous Collector’s Edition for both territories.

Originally announced as a PS3-exclusive back in 2009, The Last Guardian has endured a tumultuous development cycle, with the project plagued by various setbacks and technical difficulties. Sony initially hoped to have the game released in holiday 2011 alongside the ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Collection, though the departure of creator Fumito Ueda from Sony as well as other, undisclosed issues resulted in the game being delayed significantly.

At one point it was suggested by Jack Tretton, the former head of Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA), that The Last Guardian had been put on hiatus. However, this turned out not to be the case, with Sony assuring the game was still in development. Nonetheless, it wouldn’t be until E3 2015 that we’d catch our next glimpse of the game, which was now in the works for the PS4.

The Last Guardian went gold earlier this month, meaning development is now finally complete and the game has entered manufacturing. The game will also support Sony’s new PlayStation 4 Pro console.
