Two sources revealed that Naughty Dog communicated the layoffs internally last week, which have hit a number of departments at the company including art and production, although it is believed the majority of losses have impacted its quality assurance testing. 25 developers were claimed to be part of the downsizing.
The sources added that no severance pay has been offered to those who have been laid off, and that those affected and current staff have been pressured to keep a lid on the news. Reportedly, staff contracts won’t be terminated officially until the end of October and they are expected to continue working through the rest of the month.
Naughty Dog is keeping quiet on its future projects right now beyond its multiplayer spin-off for The Last of Us, although that title is believed to have run into some problems. While back in June it was reported resource had been diverted away from the game, Kotaku now reports that the project is basically “on ice at the point.”
