The Last of Us Part 2 looks set to feature an ‘amazing’ storyline, Naughty Dog boss Evan Wells has teased.
Speaking during an interview with Game Informer, Wells took the time to hype up the hotly anticipated action-adventure sequel, although wouldn’t divulge much in the way of any new information. However, the Santa Monica outfit is clearly excited by how The Last of Us Part 2 is shaping up, which can only mean good things for gamers.
“[The Last of Us Part 2] will be a great game. We actually just got the story pitch from Neil [Druckmann] very recently, and- it’s going to be amazing,” said Wells.
The Last of Us Part 2 release date is still a long way off
Reports of a sequel to 2013’s celebrated post-apocalyptic title surfaced some time ago, when Nolan North, who voiced creepy villain David in The Last of Us, confirmed that Naughty Dog was working on a new entry in the series. However, it wasn’t until December’s PlayStation Experience that Sony officially confirmed The Last of Us Part 2 was in development with a brief teaser trailer.
The Sony-owned studio later said that they had originally planned to showcase the trailer during E3 2017, although decided it was better suited to revealing the footage during the PlayStation-centric event. Having said that, The Last of Us Part 2 is still in the early stages of development, so don’t expect a release date anytime soon. Naughty Dog has previously said it has a couple of games in the pipeline for the PS4 before it shuffles off into the sunset.
From what we know of the story so far, players will control a 19-year-old Ellie as she appears to be on some sort of revenge mission, possibly against the Fireflies from the original game. Joel also shows up in the trailer, although one popular fan theory is that the grizzly hero is in fact just an hallucination, with Joel having kicked the bucket some point before The Last of Us Part 2 takes place. Perhaps this is what fuel’s Ellie’s desire for vengeance?
