With the recent release of Final Fantasy XIV Patch 7.5, the Final Fantasy XI crossover alliance raid series for has come to an end. If you’re wanting more Final Fantasy XI content however, a previous crossover event will be returning on May 8. This event has run several times in the past, and those who have got the items before will not be able to get them again.
Together With The Crystal
The event is called ‘The Maiden’s Rhapsody’. The hero from Vana’diel has mysteriously arrived in the world of Eorzea. Though she has lost her memories, the quest will allow you to explore the world with her, teaching her things about our world while also helping her remember her own history. The quest is called “A journey to remember,” which starts in Limsa Lominsa Upper Decks (X11.6, Y.2) from an NPC named Remumu. Note that it’s locked to players above level 30, as it does involve some combat.
The quest is a fun one; you must visit certain locations round Eorzea and deal with some enemies that spawn as FATEs. The locations are Eastern La Noscea (X32, Y33), Central Shroud (X11, Y22), Southern Thanalan (X22, Y37) and finally Upper La Noscea (X26, Y22). The game will guide you through each fate.
Samurai For All
Once completed, this gives a cool set of gear called ‘Amatsu,’ which is based on the character from the quest and can be equipped by any job level 30 or above. I will add however, that since the original quest was released, the glamour system has been updated, and you can now glamour any job-specific equipment onto any job now, as this restriction was removed in a recent update.
For those who had previously completed the quest, you will be unable to get the gear, but you can use the seasonal event replay feature; if you talk to Remumu, it will reset the progress of the completed quest, and you will be able to do it again. This will be handy for some folk who maybe did this a long time ago or, due to the recent Final Fantasy XI alliance raid, want a little more of the franchise and will take this as a nice walk down memory lane.
Last Thoughts
Hopefully one day we may see the return of the other Final Fantasy XI event, in which a giant Shantotto is attacking the realm. Still, I doubt this event will return, as the reward is sold for money on the online store, but it would be nice with Shantotto appearing in the alliance raid if they would somehow bring it back with a different reward. Plus, as it’s been so long, it would be cool just give folk a chance to earn it for free again rather than making them spend money.
