The Order: 1886 had a sequel in the early stages of development that was set to include multiplayer elements and larger battles, according to the game’s creative director, Ru Weerasuriya.
Speaking with Julien Chieze, Weerasuriya revealed that he penned a 10-page pitch for The Order: 1886’s follow-up, and was one of two sequels planned for the franchise — The Order 1891 and The Order 1899. The third entry never reached production, but the story was mapped out for a full trilogy, with the in-development second game shelved as a result of the mixed reception to The Order 1886.

Elsewhere, Weerasuriya stated that he had planned stories for the franchise to take place in the 20th century, although obviously these never materialised as The Order 1886 as a series sadly never progressed beyond the first title.
The Order: 1886 was released for the PS4 in February 2015 and developed by Ready at Dawn, who was acquired by Meta back in 2020 and sadly shut down last year. Ready at Dawn’s co-founder, Andrea Pessino, discussed the lack of a sequel to The Order 1886 earlier this year during chat with MinnMax, where he said he believed it was the game’s critical reception that resulted in the lack of a follow-up, not sales.
I don’t think it was the sales, I think it was the critical reception, that’s the thing. Sony is a very proud group and rightfully so, and the critical reception, it it had even been just in the 70s, we would have had the sequel, I’m convinced. Just a few points more and it would have been ok.
