Simu Liu, best known for his role in Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, has revealed in a post on X that the first script draft for the Sleeping Dogs movie has been completed.
“In honour of our Sleeping Dogs script draft being done, here’s my sleepy dog,” he wrote, accompanied by a picture of himself with his adorable pooch companion. He was then asked in the comments how discussions with Square Enix were going, to which he replied, “They’re absolutely great — it’s the studios that don’t seem to understand how important this IP is, BUT we will get them there.”

Liu has been championing the Sleeping Dogs movie for some time now, and a report from earlier this year by IGN has claimed that Liu will be playing the role of Wei Shen in the project. The film was previously planned to feature Donnie Yen in the lead role, although sadly he confirmed in early 2025 that it was no longer happening, despite the fact he had waited years and even invested his own money in the project.
Not long after Yen confirmed the Sleeping Dogs movie was no longer going ahead, Liu, who is well known by his fans for being an avid video game, revealed that he he was working to get the project resurrected, as well as hopefully see renewed interest in the IP overall, perhaps leading to a new video game.
