News PS5 Splinter Cell Splinter Cell Movie Ubisoft

The Splinter Cell Movie Has Been Officially Cancelled

The Splinter Cell movie that was announced more than 10 years ago has officially been scrapped, according to a report by The Direct.

Basil Iwanyk, the film’s producer, revealed that the film, which would have starred Tom Hardy in the leading role, ended up being shelved as they just “couldn’t get it right.”

That movie would have been awesome… Just couldn’t get it right, script-wise, budget-wise. But it was going to be great. We had a million different versions of it, but it was going to be hardcore and awesome. That’s one of the ones that got away, which is really sad.

Interestingly enough, it was 12 years ago today that we reported that Ubisoft Motion Pictures had eyed Tom Hardy for the project. At the time, Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures, commented:

Tom Hardy is currently one of the biggest talents in the film industry, and he has a phenomenal ability to take on complex and varied roles with his broad range of acting skills. His involvement in the Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell movie is exciting news for movie and video game fans alike.

Hardy has since gone on to feature in many films over the past decade or so, including the Venom franchise, which recently wrapped with Venom: The Last Dance. It’s a pity the Splinter Cell film is no longer coming together, as it would have been interesting to see how it would have panned out with Hardy leading the cast.
