CD Projekt Red News PS5 The Witcher 4 The Witcher 4 Map Size The Witcher IV

The Witcher IV Director Confirms The Game’s Map Size Is ‘More Or Less The Same’ As Its Predecessor

CD Projekt RED’s Sebastian Kalemba and Gosia Mitręga have revealed during a chat with the Friends Per Second podcast that the map size in The Witcher IV is ‘more or less the same’ as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

Kalemba, who serves as game director on the highly anticipated fantasy-RPG, began by touching on the length on The Witcher 3 before moving on to what we can expect from the follow-up.

When we threw the numbers, we were like, ‘Five to ten hours maybe for Hearts of Stone,’ and Blood and Wine, ‘maybe ten to fifteen hours.’ And we ended up with thirty hours! So, it’s exactly, like you know, this is chaos theory. Of course, empirically, we have so much knowledge regarding the structure of Witcher 1, 2, 3, the structure of Cyberpunk, and all the expansions. So, we use this data.” However, CD Projekt RED looks at the scale “a little differently. We don’t want to be a servant to the numbers, you know what I mean?

Regarding The Witcher IV, he stated that it’s “definitely more or less the same when it comes to the size,” with the amount of quests “more or less the same. Again, the game is going to be big. But also, the ambition of the entire team is huge. So fist and foremost, we want to deliver a super compelling experience.”

The Witcher IV was revealed during The Game Awards last Thursday night with a cinematic trailer, with CDPR later confirming that Ciri is the main character – a decision that it says was ‘the super right choice.’ The studio revealed this week that the character has been recast for The Witcher IV, with Ciara Berkeley taking over the role from Jo Wyatt.

In addition, while Geralt is not going to be the main focus this time around, CDPR did confirm that he will appear in The Witcher IV, and Doug Cockle was the male voice heard in the trailer.
