Two-player is ‘magic number’ for Modern Warfare 2 co-op

Infinity Ward community boss Robert Bowling has revealed that Modern Warfare 2’s co-op functionality will be restricted to two players, and will not be linked to the game’s story mode.

Speaking to VideoGamer.com, Bowling explained, "Two player seemed to be the magic number for co-op. That’s when it stayed really fun and intense without becoming a clusterf*** of things. We just found that two-players was the most fun.”

"We don’t do co-op in our story because we’re crafting a very specific experience and we don’t want to ruin that by cramming co-op into it. We take the moments that work really well with co-op, we bring them out and we put them in Special Ops."

Bowling went on to describe Special Ops as ‘all about fun,’ with gamers encouraged to clock up multiple playthroughs in order to achieve a better time: “it’s about challenging a friend going in on co-op and trying to beat it on veteran,” he said.

Modern Warfare 2 hits PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 in November 2009.
