Nathan Drake voice actor Nolan North has revealed that developer Naughty Dog scrapped around eight months of work for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End following the departure of series Lead Writer, Amy Hennig.
Speaking at Metrocon (via NeoGAF), North, who has voiced Drake since the series’ inception with Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, said Hennig’s planned narrative for the highly anticipated action-adventure sequel was discarded after Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley headed up the project.
“We had shot eight months of her story and it was all thrown away," said North, though didn’t go into any further details as to the nature of the cut content.
"The Last of Us guys came in, and you have to understand, new producers, new people, they want to do it. I don’t know what happened exactly. Amy is still a very, very dear friend of mine, and she’s brilliant, but The Last of Us guys were the next team there so they took over and they just wanted their own flavour. They got rid of some of the other people that were involved and just redid their thing.”
North went on to add that Hennig is now working on a “brand new Star Wars franchise in the style of Uncharted" at Visceral Games. He stressed, however, that the project is not a recycled Star Wars 1313.
Uncharted 4 is due out exclusively on PlayStation 4 in spring 2016. The game received a brand new demo at Sony’s E3 2015 press conference, which can be seen here. Check out the latest screenshots while you’re at it and read our preview of the game to tide you over.
