Uncharted 4 dialogue options won’t be like Mass Effect

The co-director behind Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has clarified the use of multiple dialogue options in the upcoming PlayStation 4-exclusive sequel.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Neil Druckmann noted that the dialogue options won’t be frequent, and that Nathan Drake’s latest (and last) adventure has a clear ending in mind, so don’t expect anything along the likes of Mass Effect in terms of a branching narrative.

"The thing I want to make sure we’re clear about is that we’re not making Mass Effect,” said Druckmann. "Uncharted has a very specific story, it has a very specific ending that’s very definitive to the franchise.

"But every once in a while we felt that a dialogue tree would really bring you more into the scene."

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End is scheduled for release on PS4 in late April, having been delayed from its original launch date of March 18. The game takes place three years after the events of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, and sees Nate coming out of retirement to pursue a legendary pirate’s treasure in Madagascar. His adventure sees him reunited with his long-lost brother, Sam, who was thought to have been killed during an earlier mission.

Naughty Dog has confirmed multiple times that Uncharted 4 will be the final game to feature Drake, and has admitted that continuing the series without him is difficult to imagine. In addition, it also recently gave its biggest hint yet that Nate will meet his maker by the time Uncharted 4’s credits roll. The studio has said it has at least one more game to release on the PS4, although it’s keeping tight-lipped on any details at present.

Uncharted 4 will feature a full multiplayer suite as with previous entries although this time around there’s more content thrown into the mix, with the addition of mystical elements and AI-controlled teammates. The game will also include single-player DLC for the first time in the franchise’s history.
