Uncharted 4 multiplayer confirms the return of Plunder Mode

Naughty Dog has confirmed that Plunder Mode is making a comeback for the multiplayer component for Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

A favorite of previous Uncharted games, Plunder takes the form of a Capture the Flag-style offering, although it replaces flags with idols. Here, gamers must search for the idol, grab it, and then take it back to your treasure chest.

The developers have implemented a few tweaks this time around, however. Firstly, the mode has been switched up from 5v5 to 4v4 players, while the owner of the idol no longer has the traversal restrictions in place.

Plunder Mode will be playable on a total of free maps: Island, Madagascar City and Rooftops. More details will be revealed at PAX East this weekend, where the multiplayer will be fully playable.

Uncharted 4: A Thief’s is scheduled for release on PlayStation 4 on May 10, 2016. The game sees Nathan Drake on the trail of a legendary pirate treasure once owned by Henry Every, and is reunited in his globetrotting journey with Victor Sullivan and his brother, Sam.

The action-adventure sequel features a number of gameplay enhancements, including new stealth mechanics, smarter AI and large-scale environments to traverse. The multiplayer also features new content including AI buddies and mystical elements to wield against foes.

Naughty Dog has said that this will be its final Uncharted game, although hasn’t ruled out the prospect of another developer taking up the reins going forward. Regardless, the Santa Monica heavyweight feels it has achieved resolution for Drake in his final adventure
