Uncharted: The Lost Legacy won’t have a Nathan Drake cameo

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy will not feature a cameo appearance by wise-cracking series hero, Nathan Drake, Naughty Dog has confirmed.

Speaking during an interview on the PlayStation Blog, Writer Josh Scherr admitted the team had flirted with the idea of the globetrotting treasure hunter showing his face in some capacity, but came to the conclusion that Drake’s story was neatly wrapped in Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. So, don’t go expecting a cheeky cameo.

We entertained a few possible ideas around including Nate as a secondary character,” Scherr said. “But everything we did felt superfluous because we tied it all up with Uncharted 4.”  “We’re not going to touch on Nathan Drake in this, at all,” confirmed Game Director, Kurt Margenau.

You can sort of imagine Drake sitting on the couch playing Crash Bandicoot while Chloe and Nadine are off galavanting,” Scherr joked. “Yeah, the Crash Bandicoot remaster,” Margenau added.

Elsewhere, the team confirmed the addition of new weapons in the game, such as the silenced pistol to facilitate stealth kills, with C4 joining the ranks from the Uncharted 4 multiplayer, and there’s more combat options in general available to players. “There are entire combat setups that you can skip, go around, or approach from any direction,” Margenau explained. “It’s got a bigger, more organic feel, with more player choice and more stealth options.”

Uncharted: The Lost Legacy is due out exclusively for PS4 in 2017. The game takes place 6-12 months after the events of Uncharted 4, and sees fan-favorite Chloe Fraser teaming up with Nadine Ross to hunt down a mythical Indian artifact, the Tusk of Ganesh. The Lost Legacy is a standalone expansion to A Thief’s End, and will feature a different tone to Drake’s swansong adventure, plus the biggest environments seen in the franchise to date.

No release date has been given at the moment, and it’s currently unknown if Uncharted: The Lost Legacy will be given both a digital and physical release. Given that it’s standalone however and not just DLC, it seems likely both versions will be available.
