The Rocket League Paris Major in France has played host to the official announcement of Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 6, which was accompanied by a trailer for the ‘next era of Rocket League.’
Unreal Engine 6 was mentioned as powering the footage in the trailer in real-time, and was accompanied by a fancy new purple logo for the latest iteration of Epic’s engine. This is the first mention of Unreal Engine 6, although nothing else was revealed during trailer, nor did we get any additional details on Rocket League’s next iteration.
Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5 is currently powering many of today’s games for the current-generation of consoles, and with rumours that next-generation of hardware could launch by late 2027, it’s very likely that Unreal Engine 6 will become the engine of choice for titles on those platforms.
Speaking during Sony’s latest financial results earlier this month, the company’s president and CEO, Hiroki Totoki, said the format holder hasn’t decided on the PS6’s price and release window. Hardware leaker Moore’s Law Is Dead claimed back in April that Sony’s new console will be backwards compatible with PS4 and PS5 games.
