[UPDATE] No new updates on Eternal Sonata PS3, says Atari

UPDATE: It appears that there is some word after all, but it’s not the news that we were hoping for. When contacted, a representative from Namco Bandai US delivered the following ominous statement:

"I can’t speak for any other territories, but I believe Eternal Sonata is only announced for the PS3 in Japan right now.”

How unfortunate. We’ll keep you updated if this inane policy of depriving the US of good games changes.

ORIGINAL STORY: Atari has confirmed that it has no new details to disclose regarding the PlayStation 3 version of highly anticipated Role Playing Game, Eternal Sonata.

A spokesperson for the company told Videogaming247, “No news as yet on this. As soon as we have any I’ll let you know.”

The game was announced for the PS3 in September 2007, with early reports indicating that the port would contain all downloadable content released on the Xbox 360 version, in addition to two new playable characters.

A number of screenshots were subsequently released soon after, with industry rumours pointing to a Spring 2008 release. However, nothing on the game has been heard of since, with the official website still bearing the PS3 logo as the only indication that the title is still headed to the Sony platform.

Stay tuned for more information as it breaks.
