A report on VGC has revealed that Vantage Studios, which is the official title for Ubisoft’s new subsidiary backed by industry giant Tencent, has started full operations today.
According to the site, Ubisoft told staff earlier today that Vantage Studios will kick off activity under the leadership of Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot, who serve as co-CEOs. Its name was selected by a vote among employees, and features teams in Ubisoft Montreal, Quebec, Sherbrooke, Saguenay, Barcelona, and Sofia.
Crucially, Vantage Studios will oversee Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six — three of Ubisoft’s key franchises, with Tencent holding a 25% stage in the company, where it will serve in an advisory role. However, Derennes and Guillemot will have the final say in regards to creative and business decisions.

The French publisher also informed staff that it was transitioning to a less centralised operating model, as it wants to afford more ownership to its creative teams over their brands. This new model is formed around the ‘Creative Houses’ idea, which sees teams having greater control over their franchises and therefore able to respond quicker to expectations of players.
Assassin’s Creed in particular appears to have a busy future ahead of it, as we know that there are multiple projects in the works including Assassin’s Creed Hexe and a new multiplayer project codenamed Invictus. Beyond that, rumours about an Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake continue to gather pace, with the game supposedly due to launch within the next year.
