Wal-Mart’s new game trade-in plan

As if the world’s largest retailer didn’t have a tight enough stranglehold on nearly every market, Wal-Mart is rolling out e-Play kiosks allowing users to trade in used games. USA Today reports that 77 stores will get the kiosks, which require a credit card and a form of identification for security.

Here’s how it works: scan the game box’s bar code and you’ll get a trade-in price. Then, if the game is accepted, you’ll swipe your credit card and ID, then slip in your game disc. Apparently you’ll receive a credit on your card in two to three days.

Kotaku reports the kiosks are being tested throughout the Northeastern states, including New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.

While we don’t believe these Wal-Mart kiosks are a threat to GameStop’s trade-in program, we could see mothers unloading boxes of games at the kiosks if their kids get out-of-line.
