According to singer Donna Burke, Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima is still based in Tokyo, Japan, and it won’t be be too long unit we find out what the acclaimed developer is up to next following his highly publicised falling out with bosses at Konami.
Speaking with MetalGearSolid.be, Burke, who provided the vocals to Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker’s ‘Heaven’s Divide’ and ‘Sins of the Father’ for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, suggested that it won’t be long until we find out what Kojima-san is up to next.
“I’m very interested, curious and excited to see what Hideo Kojima is going to be creating next. I’ve heard he will still be based in Tokyo. But all will soon be revealed!”
Rumors have been circulating recently that Kojima-san will make an appearance at The Game Awards 2015 later this week, although nothing official has been confirmed at this point. Nonetheless, it would provide a great platform for the famed developer to confirm his future plans and give us an idea of what he’s working on next.
Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was released in September for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360. The game is Kojima-san’s final stab at the venerable stealth-action franchise, and proved to be a huge commercial success, shipping five million copies to date and topping the U.K. All Format Charts upon release. Despite the issues behind-the-scenes at Konami, Kojima-san has said that he has ‘no regrets’ over the whole affair, and posted a rather heartwarming goodbye video to a franchise that has in many ways defined his career for over 25 years. Looking to the future, Konami already suggested that it isn’t ready to hang up the Metal Gear series, and has even said that a new chapter in the franchise has been in discussion within the company. The software giant also shot down reports that it’s done with ‘AAA’ game development, and reckons Metal Gear can continue without Kojima-san. Quite how that will pan out is anyone’s guess at this point in time, although we’ll be sure to keep you in the loop.
