WSJ: Loss per PS3 slashed to $18

According to the chaps over at the Wall Street Journal, Sony Corp. has managed to narrow the loss it makes on every PlayStation 3 sold down to a measly $18 USD.

By comparison, the electronics manufacturer was previously making an estimated loss of $37 USD per unit back in December 2009. The company is now keeping its fingers crossed that it’ll turn a profit on the high-end machine in the year 2011.

Sony’s chief financial bigwig, Nobuyuki Oneda, commented: “We think we’ve bottomed out and we can do fairly well going forward.”

Things seem to be on the up for PS3 as of late, with Sony recently confirming the machine has sold 33.5 million units worldwide.
