Xperia PLAY confirmed for O2 network this summer

Sony Ericsson’s PlayStation-endorsed smartphone, Xperia PLAY, will be available on the O2 network at the beginning of June.

The official O2 blog reveals that software testing issues and bugs, which prevented PLAY from launching on the O2 network in conjunction with the official launch in April, have been ironed out completely. O2 plans to sell both the black version and an exclusive white version of the handset

Xperia PLAY is the first ever PlayStation Certified Smartphone and is shaping up to be an impressive platform for hand-held gaming, with a sleek-looking PlayStation-style game pad and an Adreno GPU graphics processor that delivers 60fps play-back. Later in the year, users will also gain access to the PlayStation Suite where they’ll be able to download a vast range of popular games.

Xperia PLAY launched in April across a number of other networks, including Orange and T-Mobile. There are currently over 60 games available for the device, including pre-installed titles such as Sims 3 and FIFA 10 and original PlayStation games such as Syphon Filter and Destruction Derby.
