Polyphony Digital head Kazunori Yamauchi has admitted that there was still “a lot more” that he wanted to squeeze in to Gran Turismo 5 but ultimately couldn’t as a result of the hardware restrictions of the PlayStation 3.
Chatting to Esquire UK, the famed games designer revealed that although every new PlayStation console has upped the ante in terms of raw horsepower, it still hasn’t ultimately proven a big enough of a "vessel" for Yamauchi’s grand ambitions.
"Software has to be created under the restriction of the hardware," he said. "With each new PlayStation, the vessel has become bigger, but it’s still not enough.”
"With Gran Turismo 5 we’ve made it as clean and beautiful as possible within the confines of the space we’re given – but of course there’s a lot more that we want to put in."
Gran Turismo 5 is due out this holiday season, though an exact release date has yet to be announced.
