Yves Guillemot Blames Lacklustre Star Wars Outlaws Sales On Waning Interest In Star Wars Brand

Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot has addressed the lacklustre performance of last year’s Star Wars Outlaws in a recent investors meeting, suggesting the game failed to meet expectations due to a general lack of interest in the Star Wars franchise as a whole.

When asked about the game’s failure to meet internal expectations at Ubisoft, Guillemot simply commented, “Outlaws was released at a time when the brand that it belonged to was in a bit of choppy waters.” Evidently, the Ubisoft CEO didn’t entertain the possibility that it may have been to do with the quality of Star Wars Outlaws itself, as many reviewers noted that it came with its fair share of issues.

Star Wars Outlaws was released for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S back in August 2024, and a few months later Ubisoft revealed that it had appointed a new creative director to drive post-launch support for the game. This included improvements to three key areas – combat, controls, and stealth – which were soon addressed in a number of major patches.

One of the main complaints that was addressed includes the notorious forced stealth sections, which were removed in one of the game’s updates last November. Earlier this year, it was reported that Star Wars Outlaws sold fewer copies than Star Wars Jedi: Survivor across Europe during 2024.
