The Embracer Group-owned Zen Studios has been hit by layoffs, with a source at the Budapest-based outfit revealing that 32 employees have lost their jobs at the Zen Pinball developer. The news was originally broken by Forbes.
The company is the latest studio owned by Embracer Group that has suffered layoffs as part of an ongoing restructuring at the industry giant. This comes following a major deal at Embracer fell through, resulting in the company slashing its earnings forecasts, closing a number of studios and canceling projects.
So far, we’ve seen a number of layoffs hitting developers including Gearbox Publishing, Crystal Dynamics, and Beamdog. One of the biggest losses came back in August, when it was announced that Embracer had shut down Volition, the studio behind the Saints Row franchise.
Zen Studios was founded in 2003 and was acquired by Embracer Group in 2020, at which point the company had around 65 employees working for the studio.
