Embracer Group has announced during its latest interim financial report that Dead Island 2 has sold over two million copies since its launch on April 21, 2023.
Developed by Dambuster Studios, Dead Island 2 has become Deep Silver and PLAION’S biggest ever launch in terms of units and revenue. Speaking on the game’s success, Lars Wingefors, co-founder and CEO of Embracer Group, commented:
I am happy to state that the game has now reached a sell-out of well over two million units. It is rewarding to see that the decision to give [Dambuster Studios] time to polish the game has paid off.
Embracer Group revealed earlier this year that it is aiming to launch five games based on The Lord of the Rings by 2024.
Dead Island 2 is now available for PS5, PS4, PC, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One. The game is noted for having a tumultuous development cycle, having originally been announced back in 2014 with Yager at the helm. Production then shifted to UK-based Sumo Digital, and finally Dambuster Studios.
