The latest issue of US publication Game Informer has revealed that Gearbox Software plans to release Aliens: Colonial Marines for next-generation consoles and PC in 2009.

According to the magazine, the title aims to recapture the “desperation” and tension that played an integral part of earlier films in the Aliens franchise, and will take the form of a squad-based, tactical First Person Shooter.

Further details are currently unknown at this point, although more information should hopefully be forthcoming within the next few months. Stay tuned to PSU for more updates as we get them.

Squad based tatical shooter.... just lost my interest there boys.

The best Alien games has to be Alien vs Predator 2 for the PC which allowed you to play 1 of 3 campaigns (or all three :P) as human, alien or predator and each handeled exactly how you think they would, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Then, you jump into multiplayer! The humans had the most firepower, while the predator was sneaky and had custom visual fields to better see enemies and then teh alien was a crazy fast, able to climb on walls/ceilings brawler and it all worked perfectly together.

Someone needs to go back and remake that kind of experience for the new consoles. AVP3 anyone? :D

Great, Gearbox couldnt think of anything original, so they use the same title that got CANNED a year ago.  Good job.  This better be da*n worth it, im a die-hard Alien fan, and there has only been one or two stellar standalone Alien titles, Alien 3 (SNES), and Alien Trilogy (PSOne).   Dont F this up GB, and the Alien RPG better be better than that AVP crap from last gen.

a ps2 game by EA with exactly the same name was cancelled in the summer of 2002. guess sega and gearbox are resurrecting this cancelled project. that's great. again, i'm a huge alien fan.

i'm a huge alien fan, for me there hasn't been a descent game where as a marine you have to survive deadly attack's of alien's, i can only imagine the detail's of ripping appart aliens with gun shots and having to avoid splashes of acid blood not to get injured, that would be cool!
