Electronic Arts has whipped the curtains off the debut trailer for its upcoming heavy metal-inspired adventure, Brutal Legend.

Debuting at last nights Spike TV Video Game Awards, the trailer depicts metal mad protagonist Eddie Riggs (voice by the indestructible Jack Black) smashing and wisecracking his way through an alternate dimension inhabited by– in Riggs’ own words – “big ugly demons.”

The game was recently salvaged by EA after it was left up development creek without a publisher following the Activision-Blizzard merger. Quite frankly, the whole thing looks and sounds brilliant, so we’re thanking our lucky stars EA decided to take it on board.

Check out the trailer below.

Brutal Legend is due out in 2009.
