FIFA topples Call of Duty for a second time

Electronic Arts’ FIFA 09 has dethroned Call of Duty: World at War from the top of the UK Charts for a second time running, despite sales of the popular sports entry dropping by 41 percent.

Meanwhile, sales of Activision’s popular shooter also hit a considerable slump, dropping 50 percent, though it still managed to fend off Need for Speed Undercover snapping at its heels at number three.

On the flip side, Guitar Hero: World Tour received a considerable spike in sales, climbing from seventh to fourth place, while Ubisoft’s Far Cry 2 resurfaced in the top ten at seven.

Needless to say, expect this game of cat and mouse between EA and Activision Blizzard to continue for the foreseeable future – that is, until the likes of Killzone 2 and Resident Evil 5 muscle in on the action.

*Shrugs* They're not the best of games anyhow, I think. Far Cry 2 is, though! :)

Sounds like somebody likes playing with balls instead of playing with big guns.  Yah, no banned words :)  I never got into sports games.  Unless you're confined to a wheel chair, just go out and play soccer, football, baseball, basketball, or whatever.  It will be good for you.  It's a lame concept.  It's like playing a video game about watching TV, or a video game about cooking food, or a video game about playing guitar...oh wait.  Maybe boxing and fighting games can slide as being best played in a video game, but all other sports should be played for real.

because 80% of britain plays/ has played football(its proper name!) and plus EA made an effort with this one and it turned out good. ITs not about real gaming its about FUN gaming, not hardcore die 1000 times to beat the last boss.

Maybe because Fifa 09 is the most comprehensive sports game there is right now and like half the british population consider football as their religion... this isn't so surprising.

far cry 2 blows as does COD5. really only the first week of sales would matter coz thats when 'gamers' buy the games. they dont buy bad games like NFS Undercover a month after release. only part-time gamers or families do that.
