I've bought the special edition ps3 version at 0:01 last night adn been playing it ever since on my 60 gb ps3 bought at launch without any problems.

Got mine at midnight too.  No problems here.

does it also happen to 40 gb and 80 gbs?

This story is old news! The site that put it up has updated the article several times each with diferent tellings. Still, we have a problem in our hands!

Do they know how much space it needs to install?! Could it be a disk space error measure?! Does the game even check if it has enough space?

Many people have succefully installed and played the game with now problems. In the original article they have updated the info with a ´´possible batch of games from GameStop´´.

Also, this might be a conspiracy theory but hear me out (or read me out):

All the posters that made the GTA IV freezing topics are all suspects! If you look into their posts history logs there isnt a single post regarding the PS3 in a positive way! They are all bashing the PS3! Microsoft and/or X360 fanboys are capable of anything.

When the PS3 lauched in the UK (i think, not sure) microsoft made a boat cross some river with X360 adds in order to undermine the PS3 launch that day. After all of this, this might be some bad joke made by one or two situations when the game actually froze in someone´s PS3 and then it took EPIC proportions. If videos appear of it or if it happens to someone I know, then I´ll truly believe.

 

On the side note:

Remember Assassins Creed freezing issues?! It happened to me and to a lot of people. Sites like IGN, GameTrailers and beyond never mentioned any of those problems when they reviewed the game. But it did had issues.

However, they were all marked as PS3 issues! Although the X360 also had them and even worse ones like DOUBLE ALTAIR!

 

There is a lot of negative hype towards the PS3.

 

gta games have always been prone to freezing for me. i hope this isnt another one!

midnight launch for both console(60gb PAL) and game not a problem.

Got mine just after midnight and played for a few problem-free hours on my launch 20 gig.  I'll have to check it out again after work.

 Oh Great!!!!! That's the one thing the PS3 doesn't needed, any more bad press! Especially if pushes potential PS3 buyers to get a 360 instead.

Why can't they just make the game working perfect? :S

More FUD against the PS3,  Its all BS!!!!    The game runs fine. Possibly an update in the future (as with all games nowadays). GTA IV runs fine on PS3.  I have had no problems

curious, I just readed in GT that the freezing issues happen more in 360 consoles. Well, I suggest that take this as a general issue more than a PS3 Hardware issue.

I agree with Neameto it could be down to lack of hard disk space, i have a launch day (UK) 60gb and have had no problems at all, and i recieved my copy yesterday morning so i have a had a good session on it. My PS3 was running out of space but i just deleted a load of game demos i no longer play and freed up 11GB, oh and by the way im still not getting any issues what so ever

Hope it doesn't happen to my copy (though I could never complete San Andreas because my copy ALWAYS froze at a particular mission !!)

I had the same freezing problems when I first got Army of Two, I just got a replacement disc and haven't had any problems since. I'm assuming they just have some problems burning discs.

We had a launch at EB today.. the only copy to come back was actually a 360 version with freezing issues. We just replaced the disc and they never came back so we assume everything went well. Other than that no other games have come back. Also - that was a Limited Edition version... so maybe that has something to do with it.

I highly doubt Rockstar would release this game without running it through much rigorious testing. It's all BS!

Blown out of proportion? Probably.  Both sides are looking for anything to make their version seem superior.  A few people probably didn't have enough space on their HDD and posted it needlessly.

OH MY GOD... I been waiting and waiting... I had it paid off already, just got it, but I am still at work. I own two 60GB PS3s and you tell me this crap? OMG!!!!!! It better work or ima through a &%^&#^%(*##(%(#$&@#* @)% fit. BTW, GTA  iv gameplay looks beautiful... 10/10

The fact that there are only 26 posts on this topic means that most people who have it are PLAYING IT RIGHT NOW, not complaining about it. It is a MS conspiracy, period. The guy above is right, they are capable of anything. WE ALL ARE when money is involved. Get used to it, though. They will attack the PS3 on any Xplatform/High profile game. Read some of the posts here! People have already fallen for it...idiots.

I picked mine up just for peace of mind, but can't play it yet.  Not only do I have to move out of my apartment this week, it's also finals week (groan).  Just terrible timing for me.  I have a 60gb, though, so I'll find out this weekend!

My gta 4 is working fine, a lot of my games freeze on my 60 gig, I think it has more to do with the system than the game.

i have the 60gb and it froze 4 !!! TIMES!!!!!!! the volume is too low, it's to dark, the controls suck on everything!!!! gta 4 should be voted the worst game ever!!!!!!!! i'm taking it back and getting my money. DON'T BUY JUST RENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Picked up my copy after work on the 29th and played it without any problems until today. It freezes up almost everytime and when it doesn't freeze up right away I can only play for a few minutes b4 it freezes. All other games and BluRay and standard DVDs play fine.

It's not BS.  I'm sitting here, in front my TV with the Effing game frozen.  I'm so pissed!  This was called the greatest game in the past 10years to be made!  I was so freaking excited to play it and then I get home and halfway throught he first mission it freezes!  Then I try to load it up again, freezes on loading!  Try it again, play some more, about 10mins into it, FROZEN.  This is so freaking frustrating!  They better come out with a fix.  I turned off the Autosave feature and so far, that seems to help.  But we'll see...

 

And no I'm not some pro Xbox idiot.  I don't even have an Xbox.  Completely anti-microsoft here.  Infact I'm typing this on a Mac.  So don't go around claiming it's a fake and hinder Rockstar from getting off their butts and making a fix for this because I want to play my DANG game!
