PlayStation Home Community Manager ‘TedTheDog’ has confirmed that the early-awaited Red Bull Air Race will not be available to users of Sony’s online social phenomenon until 2009.

Still, according to Dog, the wait should be more than worth it: “it really ought to be worth the wait, its really quite impressive and a lot of fun,” he told members of Sony’s Official European PlayStation forums.

“We've played it and, while it's kind of neat, it's not quite as awesome as it's maybe getting hyped up to be,” before conceding that Home’s content at present is  “a little bare."

Dog concluded: "we've got some problems to solve, but they'll be solved and we can then move on to running it as the service we all want."

Stay tuned for more PlayStation Home developments as we get them.

    home is the most stupidest app ever, it adds nothing, absolutely nothing to my ps3 gaming experience, what a waste, friends, socializing, i can do that at school, the mall, the movies, games i play them on my ps3, sony wasted time, money & resources on this crap? when home was first shown i was like "cool, a place where me & my can get together and hop online to play an online game" but it doesnt even do that, granted its an open beta and more functionality will be added over time but still home right now is crap, stinky crap. hardly anyone on my psn list uses this home crap. i guess i'm gonn have to accept that XBL is the standard for online gaming. now before any one of you calls me an "xbot" or w.e. let me say that im a gamer first, and i chose the ps3 because i believe thats where the best games are. i dont own an X360 but i wont bash it like lots of ps3 fanboys do, i can accept it for what it is, a great games console & i can also accept the fact that XBL is in many ways better than psn. would i like psn to be better than xbl? of course but i live in the real world and imho home is crap

    @6

    who do you think you are.  Sony have gave it us for FREE, you may have to pay for some stuff like clothes and furniture, IF U DONT WANT THEM DONT BUY THEM. if you dont like it dont flippin use it you fool. lots of people on my friends list loves home, and i do aswell. sony didnt have to give it us, but they did. so saso_7 you can stop moaning about a free app, just dont use it but dont ruin it for everybody else by shoutin your mouth off!!!

    @6,7,8 As much as I hate to admit it six appears to be correct.  There are so many features of ps3 that let it down and they've spent all their time making Home but failing to address some real key issues with the PS3 experience as a whole.   Making a badly behaved console look good by providing free software that nobody really wanted until they said "You will love Home it's gonna change everything" is just sucking you all in.  It's no better than a glorified chat world with game session launching.  If you want to do this properly then get Steam on your PC.

    PS3 doesn't allow you to talk to your friends unless they are in the same game/session.  The XMB is clumsy and if you've ever tried to organise your media files on it then you probably are more than aware of its shortcomings.  If you are listening to music in a game that supports music (which they all should - after all  is it not a media center too?) then the music quits when you quit the game.   The in-game XMB is slow and you can't do most of the things that are on the menu so why bother at all?  Because everybody said we want in-game XMB and they took it quite literally.

    Then there's Folding@home ... what's the stupid Life with PS application that they replaced it with?  It barely provides much more than the previous version did but this time confusing the user with yet another half finished prooduct.

    So don't even get me started on Home because they'll distract us with something else before too long and we'll forget about all about Home before long.  We'll all suffocate as we hold our breath for the next half-finished product.

    Despite all that the first-party developers are giving us some great tiles.  Drakes Fortune, Motorstorm, LBP, Warhawk, KZ2 and these are the games that are worth holding out for.  We are seeing PS3 as lead platform throughout 09.

    What needs to happen is for Sony to stop focussing on Home as the saviour for their console and start thinking about how they could make PS3 a pleasant experience not an incomplete one.  First step would be to revisit the whole XMB idea and to make sure that load times for trophies, profiles and other network data delays no longer blight this otherwise great piece of hardware
