Kojima needs to say "Die, Snake" to move on from MGS

Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima has said that the only way for him to move on from the popular stealth series is to firmly admit plans to kill off the series main protagonist, Solid Snake.
Speaking to IGN, Kojima commented, "I really don't want to say that this the final game or this is the wrap up," adding, "But if I don't say it, people will make me create MGS again!”
"So I have to say, 'Die, Snake,' and really end it so I can move on to something else!” he admitted.
Even so, Kojima added that the series may continue even without the appearance of the lovable gruff hero, commenting, "Actually, it's a game, so even if Snake dies, the game can live on."
"Maybe it'll be a novel or a comic – I do have some ideas,” he said.
Despite this, he went on record to state that he would not be as heavily involved with the project as with previous instalments, adding, "However, I have to say that I'm not going to do everything if we were to create it. Maybe I'll just produce or maybe design the game and just act on that role, so I won't be the total creator of that series if it happens."
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is due out worldwide exclusively on PlayStation 3 on June 12.

I love games like MGS but I am worried that many of these great games are pushed past their use by date in order to make a quick buck. For this reason I admire Kojima for being strong enough to stand up to both Konami & Sony and say enough is enough! I really hope MGS 4 is a goodbye we wont ever forget.

I honestly think the big twist at the end will be that he won't die..cause everyone is expecting him to !! I expecting that scene with the gun in his mouth..then Meryl or Otacon runs in and stops him...though maybe he dies "naturally" from the foxdie "X" years after the end of the game..so then it sort of give the ending Kojima wants were people think he is dead but if he wanted to in the future he could make more games taking place between the end of MGS4 and his death..

Whereas this makes me sad, to tell the truth the Metal Gear Universe has become bigger than Solid Snake, introducing a ton of characters who are cool in their own right. I mean, sometimes it seems (when I read MGS fan posts) that Big Boss is more popular than Solid Snake! Anyway, I think the MGSU(niverse) can go on without snake. There will always be war (and you can always clone more, lol).

Let Snake R.I.P.........let Kojima rest!
Snake has gone through a lot.....and so has Kojima!
I think this may be the greatest MGS story ever told and will have the most incredible visuals ever seen....for MGS.

A change of character would bring some new life in to this well aged series, Snake is bad @55 and it will be h311 hard to top him but just maybe they will be able to create another character on par with him.

Snake is a clone..... is there really a point of us discussing his death? I am sure the project that made hime still has big bosses genes in a lockup somewhere. I wouldn't be surprised if snake dies and we get to play another type of solid snake.

funny thing is i dont think kojima needs to stand up to sony or konami at all...
its the crazed fanboys and fangirls out there that preasure him to constantly make a new mgs game... i remeber this artical that said kojima recived death threats from fans if he wasnt involved with mgs4... so if you wanna blame someone blame the fans....

If this new badass Raiden shown in MGS 4 trailers is not playable I surely want a game with him in the lead .
I will stay away from all reviews and such until I start playing the game myself

Yes, you are correct, MGS3's Naked Snake = Big Boss. But the article addresses the fate of SOLID Snake, the hero of the missions in MG, MG2: Solid Snake, MGS, and the "Tanker Mission" in MGS2. I was just stating that many old fans of the series really took a liking to Naked Snake's (Big Boss's) story from MGS3 and MGS: Portable Ops (PSP), and that the Metal Gear World may be bigger than just Solid Snake.

"snake? SNAKE? SNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE !!!??......wait, he is actually dead this time !!? My bad"
Lol
@sevket: An MGS game in control of one of the ninja characters would completely ruin the feel of it.. I actually hate Raiden even more now..cause he is a gay character that is suddenly stronger than the badass that is solid snake..they better have another crotch grab to him again in this to make fun of him and I also want to see scene were he ABSOLUTELY NEEDs to be rescued by snake !! Can't have him being stronger now can we !!?? lol

If Snake dies, Raiden carries on...but if you recall in one of the trailers, raiden was seriously beaten up, maybe by Vamp. Which if Raiden dies, it will be that other possible, younger clone we all say in the trailers.

Man, Hideo just can't say good-bye to his creation. I don't blame him. If I created a game title from scratch and see it build up and be successful, it would be hard for me to let go. But, Hideo is right, he probably wont be able to move on from the series unless he kills off Snake in the main story. I would hate to see Solid Snake die, but something is telling me that in MGS4 Snake will die.
But, if Snake dies, I would like to see MGS series continued with Raiden. Raiden has been shrouded in a lot of mystery since he first appeared in MGS2 and I would like to him in a Metal Gear Solid game as the main character.

Well, Raiden has to grow up sometime. In the game Metal Gear, the was Snake's first mission. Everyone has to start somewhere.

He can always bring him back to life, Its like Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthtur Conan Doyal killed Sherlock because he was tiered of writting about him but brought him back to life later because people wanted more, I could see this happaning to Snake, you never know.

i think the real question here is not when raiden grows up
cause lets face it unless the stupid snake fanboys growup from loving snake only
raiden will always be a sissy in their eyes...

I'm not gonna lie, you have a point. Shoot, I'd also be lying if I said Raiden couldn't use a nice gruff beard or something, lol! You know, toughen up the look of his design...
