Konami outlines review restrictions for Metal Gear Solid 4

Kojima Productions' Assistant Producer Ryan Payton contacted Kotaku today, discussing what journalists can and can't talk about when reviewing Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
Here is what Payton said reveiwers cannot discuss:
-Install times
-Length of cutscenes (the ending in particular)
-Number of environments
-Opening "movie"
-Product placement
-(Plus a half dozen story-specific items)
He went on to explain:
The game requires an eight minute install, as well as a number of two to three-minute installs between acts.
As for the cutscenes, reviewers are more than happy to comment on whether they're too long or short. We simply want reviewers to refrain from describing which scenes are long, thus spoiling some of the experience because players will know what to expect when a scene is unfolding.
I want to make it clear that, from today, reviewers are welcome to discuss the length of the cutscenes and install times, but we ask that they not get too specific about the cinematic times and what happens in later install sequences...
But as for the next three items, we are still asking reviewers to avoid these topics. We want the opening to be a huge surprise for gamers, and knowing how many environments there are in the game, obviously, is a spoiler. These restrictions will remain in place.
Finally, we've asked reviewers to not write about some of the product placement because of some contractual agreements we have with third parties.
We will be reviewing MGS4 on the day of release so we can include all of these previously forbidden juicy details. More about MGS4 as soon as it comes.

I don't like the sound of the installs betweent 'Acts'. But other than that, next week cannot come any sooner! This game will be PS3 Game of the Year, without a doubt. I hope this sell's mega-well. Hopefully, I'll be getting this on the 11th, if my 'friend' is working.... =D

Product placement? Just how much did this game cost to make that they will be supporting ads? I hope they don't pull the same crap with the online portion.

Who cares? If Kojima are asking reviews to not review a bad point in the game you would have heard about it. Probably in the form of "there were a few bad points but due to restrictions where not allowed to label them."
IGNs review is enough to make me happy. -

I agree with Emo-Mercenary, the 'install' between acts is disturbing. 2-3 minutes is very noticeable. However I will have to judge for myself if it's noticeable when I get my hands on it. The only thing I would like to know in reviews is exactly how much HDD space is needed for the entire installation.

Or is it? ;P

psn id: gingo.... these guidelines make sense, no use having a game hyped up for it to lose it just before its release becasue someone gave the story away the install times between acts sound ok but i would much rather preferred a longer load time at the beginning instead

That's fair enough from Konami, I reckon. I think Gamepsot and EGM are just kicking up un-necesary fuss to garner negative vibes from the game.
Not that MGS fans would want them reviewing it anyway as theyd just give it a 7 - which is not a bad score necessarily, but far below what MGS the series as a whole, the fans, and Kojima deserve.

You know something it dosent even matter what the reviewers say anyway because we're all still going to buy the game. if you let something like a 2 minute install (brobably for a new stage of the game) then you werent a fan anyway and it's beeter you copy went to someone that actually CARED.
They're right why would they want someone to ruin a suprise in a review. I mean sure Assassin's Credd was trying to keep the big secrete for it's game and failed miserably but even after that failure you were still going to have the story ruined for you if you managed to avoid hearing the spoiler because of the reviews all stating it from the get go with a couple of minor exceptions.

Only an 8 minute install at the begining with a 50gb game? Man, I wanna see into the brains of the techies that did this!

This explains a lot now. Something that Gamespot failed to do when I read their side to it earlier. The way GS made it sound as if Konamii was taking away their freedom of speech. But this clears up everything and just lets me know not to even bother going to GS site for any type of info.

Well, i dont really give a s*t about the act part as i will at some point have to take break and thinking of acts like other games that means you have to be stupid or sick to be able to play several acts without break. Anyways besides that some of the points made were to protect the product and from business view. Its being released soon so why make fuzz about this 1 week before release?
