NPD hardware figures for the month of July reveal that sales of Sony’s PlayStation 3 console have failed to surpass those of Microsoft's competing Xbox 360, missing forecasts previously set by a number of top industry analysts.
Despite this, the recent price cut in North America did help Sony’s next-generation console break the 100,000 monthly barrier, shipping a total of 159,000 units, lagging only slightly behind the Xbox 360’s 170,000 mark.
Both PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable continue to perform healthily, selling a total of 222,000 and 214,000 units each, respectively, with Nintendo leading the pack with 425,000 Wii units sold.
Hardware sales in total for July rose by 77.4 per cent to reach USD 380.8 million, USD 286 million of which were attributed to home console alone, with the remainder represented handheld systems. Total industry sales reached USD 925.9 million, increasing by 37 per cent from the previous year.

first post ... .. i dont know the advantage of that first post but i see the others say so (:
Why for the 360 and PS3 it says shipped but when speaking about PS2 and PSP its saids sold..Which on is it?? Shipped or Sold.. Either way, things is still looking good and promising for Sony..
M$ has an advantage by having 3 SKUs cus sheaper sells more and with the core model they will get ahead of sony... for now .. but the PS3 needs to drop to US$400
The PS3 neglecting to sell more then the 360 during the month of their price drop cant be a good sign for Sony. With the latest price drop (if you even can call it that) of the 360 should make for another better month than that of the PS3. Things will look better for sony when heavenly sword (YAY) and socom (my love) comes out. Sony needs to make it through this year and focus on the big year they have in store next year.
what a suprise. we need games not Blu Ray movies. Focus!!!!!!
