Naughty Dog has spilled the beans on its downloadable content plans for treasure hunting sequel Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, stating the company plans to support the PS3 exclusive via additional multiplayer goodies such as maps and game modes.
Speaking to Eurogamer, multiplayer designer Justin Richmond reiterated that DLC is in the pipeline, before revealing it’ll focus primarily on a competitive offerings: "What you'll probably see is more of the competitive type: more maps, more modes, stuff like that. The co-op stuff is hugely time-intensive and the size of it - the physical download size - is huge, so that's probably not an option,” he said.
“I'm not going to say never," continued Richmond, "but for the foreseeable future we're not going to be doing that." Despite this, he revealed he is "fascinated" by co-op, and let slip that there is plenty of things he would "love to do next game.”
"Naughty Dog does a really good job of defining things, and I think no one's really done a definitively amazing amazing co-op experience and I think we can do that, and it's something that at some point we'll tackle," he added.
Elsewhere, Richmond also touched on brash hero Nathan Drake, revealing there’s still plenty of hidden depth to the character, though wouldn’t divulge anything specific since "there's a good chance we might use some of them in the future."
“There are whole parts of Drake that we haven't talked about at all yet. Drake is sort of a nice character in that there's a bunch of stuff about his past that we know but nobody else does," he explained. "You'll see that... But there's a lot more of Drake to show, for sure."
And, while Naughty Dog has hinted on several occasions that future adventures from Drake and co are a possibility, Richmond wouldn’t let the cat out of the bag in regards to an Uncharted 3 – in fact, he’s not even sure what the team is up to next.
"Hahaha. I don't know what we'll do next actually," he said.
Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is due out exclusively on PS3 in North America on October 13, with a European launch following on October 16. We’ll have a review for you some time next week.

This is good news can't wait to see what they have planned.
@5- The difference is that when infinity ward announced dlc they already have a map pack exclusive to the xbox360 when the game is too be release on top of the ones they are planning for the future while the ps3 owners must wait for it.Infinity ward should of just released them on both instead of shafting the other console.

Now, this is the new style of how to make money. Just keep creating new maps, 2 new gun's, and etc.

@ 5,
I think Naughty Dog can be excused, given the overwhelming amount of content and overall polish in the game being released at retail. Without knowing anything about game development, it seems like ND have worked absolutely flat out to make U2 a complete and finished article of exceptional quality throughout. What I'm getting at is that it certainly doesn't appear that they've held anything back for the express purpose of DLC, and some more unscrupulous devs/publishers have.

I don't get the impression that ND is holding anything back for this game. U2 will without a doubt be a complete game when it launches and DLC will be nothing more than a way to keep the game alive over the years in MP. I can't comment on MW2 as I don't follow the game. Street Fighter on the other hand is a good example of bull**** DLC which simply unlocks content already on the game disc through payed purchase...wtf is that?

SWEET!!! wait, wait....focus on competitive?? dang it!! the one type i ain't playing is the one type they're focusing on. :) oh well the coop they already have seems a whole lot better then the competitive side. so i guess its ok.
@5
infinity ward had DLC already made for launch, or near enough, and is charging for it too, that close from launch. Naughty dog have only confirmed that DLC is coming....difference, one is already made...the other aint. COD is ripping u off, ND preparing to provide the community..

Alright I understand. I think I jumped the gun on commenting because I didn't think of the fact that infinity ward did pretty much say they have it made already and also announced it way back at E3. Can't wait for this anyway, MW2 has so much hype I hardly want it.

And no one thinks IW worked hard to make MW2 complete with it's more in-depth competitive multi-player? Not to mention co-op spec ops missions and single-player?
Really the only reason I can see why Naughty Dog is exempt is because U2 is ps3 exclusive.

@16 the reason its not complained at is because they said there thinking about it they not saying there working on it, just thinking of it, which is a total different reason, MW2 the content already been started and will be out only few weeks after launch whille uncharted 2 dlc might not be till next year.

ooh DLC, though I never buy DLC lol. since its a week before release, and everything is in its planning stages, they can be exempt from the DLC=Bad thing. Especially after RE5 had it already on the disc, just locked off...

@16 they are gunna be asking for another $10, at the very least, a week after launch for DLC made before the game shipped. whats more, the price of the disc has gone up too.
ND is THINKING about it, nothing is complete and finalised...did u read the article? as i said before ND are preparing to cater to the community
IW is catering to ur wallet by not putting those maps on the disc.

Depends on the game, Warhawk i would buy all their expansions in a heartbeat.
Not sure if i'll like how it does do online cause from the beta it seems you have to wait for a room full of people to join before it starts up which can take some time. Should do it the Warhawk way and show all the rooms and let people select which room they want to join.
Single player will be awesome tho

@30Bitbydeath
That is exactly what i was saying, after spending over 1000 hours on warhawk, im finally starting to get away from it with this, and if they did the servers like that, it would make it so much more enjoyable. you wouldn't have to leave after every map and spend minutes till the next game.
Even so, an amazing experience.

@5 and 16
The diference is, Infinity Ward announced DLC whilst the game was still in development. If the game's still in the development stage, the company is therefore perfectly capable of incorporating the content into the core game disc itself, rather than creating it as an entirely different product in order to release it digitally and make us pay for it seperately.
In Naughty Dog's case, however, Uncharted 2 has already gone Gold. This means the game has finished the development stage, and has already been stored on the selected medium (Blu-Ray disc) ready for distribution. At this point, no alterations can be made to the game itself - without discarding all the discs in order to return to the development stage to incorporate the additional content and recreating the discs again, which will result in HUGE financial losses - meaning any future content therefore must be released separately, in this case digitally, as Downloadable Content.
Long story short: Infinity Ward could easily include the additional content in the core game; Naughty Dog can't. That's why Naughty Dog are exempt from "bashing".
