Want a DualShock 3 for less than its official MSRP when it comes out in the US?
Amazon has you covered. By pre-ordering a DualShock 3 controller at Amazon now, you'll get $5.00 taken off the recommended sales price of $54.99 USD. It's not a massive discount, but it's the best deal we could find, especially if you opt to use their free super saver shipping option.
Unlike its predecessor, the Sixaxis, the DualShock 3 will contain a vibration function. Sony initially dubbed the feature as "last generation" when it was announced the Sixaxis wouldn't contain the capability, but they've since had a complete reversal on their stance. Additionally, the DS3 analog sticks will have a smaller "dead zone," which will in turn result in more accurate input of small movements close to the center of the sticks. The DualShock 3 controller will launch in North America on April 15 alongside Gran Turismo 5: Prologue.
We snagged one, did you?

I'm getting it for the weight and revisions. My SIXAXIS feels really cheap compared to the 360 controller.

Just wanted to clarify something. Sony did not make the decision to drop dual shock on the PS3. Immersion sued Microsoft and Sony. Microsoft settled. In the settlement they agreed loan Immersion money, buy a lump 10% share, and continue to buy stock to keep them in business until the lawsuit against Sony was settled. Immersion was granted a court ordered injunction against Sony. This made using Dual Shock on the PS3 illegal. Sony then politely said it was last generation, rather than point out they were being handicapped by Immersion. Immersion had been losing moeny long before suing Sony. And hasn't had a single profitable year in 10 years. They sued in order to keep their head above water, Sony was using Dual shock before they were granted their Haptic Patent. Immersion is a poorly managed, brash, dishonest company. Microsoft had to sue them in order to collect money they had loaned Immersion to help them fight Sony.
In regards to the PS3 Controller. It has a lithium Ion Battery, which means longer charges without recharge "memory" ruining the battery. Xbox 360 has a NiMH, which suffers from reduced capacity and recharge “memory” resulting in a shorter lifecycle. Microsoft needs the battery to be external because of its shorter life. The PS3's Li-Ion Battery has about a 2-3 year life. And despite forum prattlers it is not like the iPod. The PS3 owner’s manual points out the five screws on the under-side that need to unscrew. The just unplug change and plug in, perhaps once every two years. On the Xbox 360 wireless controller costs around $50 but does not come with a rechargeable battery or recharge cable. That kit costs an additional $20. So a wireless rechargeable Xbox 360 controller retails for $70, $15 more than the $55 PS3. Which has a superior battery, life, and charge duration.
The news story that got people excited about the PS3 having the shortest battery life was authored by an ignorant idiot. Single use alkaline batteries always last longer than rechargeable batteries. They never bothered to compare the charge life of rechargeable batteries in the controllers. Anyone long time read of Consumer Reports would know how batteries really compare. Rechargeable have short lives on each charge but recharge 10's to 100's of times.

I bought a White Dualshock 3 controller from Playasia.com back in January, I paid $59.99 for it plus $9.00 for shipping, I just couldn't wait for it to come out in the U.S.
But, Amazon always has some good deals on products though. I shop on Amazon.com every month.
I don't think that the price of the Dualshock 3 controller on Amazon.com will increase back to $54.99 for people that don't pre-order it, I think that it will stay at $49.99. I preordered the DragonBall Z Season 4 DVD set from Amazon last month and I paid $39.99 and right now, the price of the DVD set is the exact same as the "pre-order" price. Amazon is known for selling discounted merchandise, and I'm sure that they will have the Dualshock 3 controller discounted for $49.99 for as long as they sell it.
The Dualshock 3 controller feels awesome and is WAY sturdier than the standard Sixaxis controller, and it even weighs more than the Dualshock 2 PS2 controller.

I'd like to pick one up, but for $50, I'll just stick with my SIXAXIS.

Wow, post 1 sounds just like a man from Congress. Well thought out and educated comment...

I'm glad I chose not to get any more Sixaxis controllers. They feel too light and flimsy. I think I stripped a screw out from squeezing it too hard once.
Even forgetting the use of vibration, I'm glad Sony fixed the analog sticks. It might make it easier to play shooters now. The weight will feel much better too. Light is nice but I want something I can hold and not fear snapping.
