In these days of advanced electronics, it’s not hard to forget about the issues that plague this earth. Greenpeace recently released their ‘Guide to Greener Electronics,’ in which they awarded ratings to various electronics companies based on their policies on toxic chemicals and recycling.
Despite the size of their black behemoth, Sony took a top spot on the chart with a score of 7.3. Their products are free of toxic PVC, and they support recycling and takeback (of old products), especially in the US.
Microsoft scored a dismal 2.7 on their environmental friendliness. They don’t plan to eliminate many of the harmful chemicals that are created in producing their products until 2011. For shame Microsoft, for shame.
Finally, don’t be surprised if your little white Wii starts emitting radiation. The most surprising result was that of Nintendo’s, who scored a true zero on the list. They are the first company ever to score a zero across all criteria. Reggie, we’re disappointed in you.
